Holiday Camp

Tuesday, December 29 / Winter Wonderland

The natural world is full of amazing discoveries waiting to be uncovered by the keen observer. This camp will teach campers to become naturalists, putting their observation skills to the test, honing their senses, and feeding their curiosity as they explore our wintry world and become true students of nature.

Wednesday, December 30 / Over the River and Through the Woods

Despite harsh conditions, many creatures are still active during the wintertime, traveling across frozen rivers on the hunt for a meal or seeking refuge in thick woods from winter’s wild weather. Discover who can be found out and about during these short, dark days, from the sky above to the ground below and everywhere in between.

Thursday, December 31 / The Weather Outside is Frightful

Wintertime blankets Vermont’s landscape in layers of snow and ice. Delve into the science of winter weather with explorations and experiments that will unravel the mysteries of these frosty phenomena.

Many animals spend all winter sleeping, but there are a variety of forms of dormancy, hibernation being only one. Come explore all the different ways to sleep away the cold months.

For many animals, life simply goes on during the winter, albeit a little bit colder. Learn how animals adapt to the challenges winter poses: deep snow, white landscapes, and brutal cold.

Thursday, February 18 / Winter on the Fly

Birds have many options when it comes to surviving winter. Should I stay or should I go?Ìý What do I need if I stay? If I go, where should I fly? Each option has its pros and cons, as we will learn during our day-long exploration of birds in winter.

Kelly joined ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ in 2025 as the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and Family Programming Coordinator. Previously, she was a STEM Educator and ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Manager at the Montshire Museum of Science, and a Yoga Teacher with specialty training in accessibility, trauma-informed practices, and childrens yoga. During Kelly’s free-time she can be found on a hiking trail with her dog Mick, gardening, snowshoeing, doing DIY woodworking projects, and practicing yoga, all while singing along (out of tune) to Motown classics.

Sarah has had many roles at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ: she was a camp counselor, a member of the education team giving programs at the Nature Center and handling raptors, and since 2014 she has been leading ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈs and Adult Programs.Sarah feels deeply connected to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, and its camp program specifically, as she can recall being a ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ camper when the organization was at its original site in Woodstock, Vermont. She earned her MS in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England, where she concentrated on education.  She is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, gardening in the summer, and hiking with her dogs all year round.

SARAH STREW

Director ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ & Adult Programs

MEET SARAH

Sarah has been the Director for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and Adult Programs at the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ since 2014. Sarah feels deeply connected to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, and its camp program specifically, as she can recall being a ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ camper when the organization was at its original site in Woodstock, Vermont

During college, Sarah spent summers as a counselor and backpacking instructor at an overnight camp in Fairlee, returning eventually to manage the camp-craft department. For four years, she moved between Big Sky, Montana, where she taught skiing, and Hartford, Vermont, where she held various positions with ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ as a Lead Counselor for camp and also as an Environmental Education Intern, providing educational programs at the Nature Center as well as handling and training the raptors.

Prior to stepping into her current position, Sarah was involved with various educational efforts in the Upper Valley. She earned her MS in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England where she concentrated in Education. Sarah loves living in the Upper Valley and the lifestyle it affords her. She is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, gardening in the summer, and hiking with her dogs all year round.

KELLY MARQUA

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ & Family Programs Coordinator

MEET KELLY

Kelly has been a ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and Family Programming Coordinator at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ since 2025. Before joining the team, she was a STEM Educator and ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Supervisor with the Montshire Museum of Science. She is a 500-hour registered yoga teacher with specialty training in accessibility, trauma-informed practices, and children's yoga.Ìý

Kelly enjoys creating fun and welcoming programs for families and children that help them connect with each other and the natural world. She feels incredibly honored to be part of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and lucky to be able to do what she loves most, working with children outdoors.

During Kelly's free time she can be found on a hiking trail with her dog Mick, gardening, snowshoeing, doing DIY woodworking projects, and practicing yoga, all while singing along (out of tune) to Motown classics. Kelly believes that being outside is good for our souls and overall wellbeing; it changes our brain chemistry, allows us to tune inward, and harvest gratitude for the beauty around us.
