Use discount code MULTI26 in your cart. \nMore Drawing from Nature Classes:\nJuly 25 – Loose Landscapes\nAugust 22 – Butterflies\nSeptember 19 – Hawks \nDragonflies have been dancing in the sky for some 300 million years and may be one of the Earth’s earliest flying creatures. Time has allowed evolution to hone their aerial proficiency and mosquito hunting prowess while also allowing for the beauty and elegance of their gem-tone bodies to diversify and disperse! Human artists have long been fascinated by dragonflies and damselflies\, creating ancient pictographs and petroglyphs in the landscape as well as featuring in the pottery\, clothing\, and jewelry of early cultures. \nIn this workshop\, we’ll spend some time outdoors marveling at these fliers\, making our own observations. After our inspiration\, we’ll head indoors to sketch\, ink\, and paint from specimens from VTSU Castleton’s Dragonfly/Damselfly collections. Perhaps a Haiku\, or two\, or ten will emerge by the end of the workshop\, along with some elegant renditions of these creatures soaring through our nature journals. \nIf you’re interested in learning more about dragonflies and damselflies\, check out this blog post from the Riveredge Nature Center. \nDrawing\, sketching\, and watercolor experience are not necessary\, all skill levels welcome. \nParticipant Details:\nPlease dress for the weather and wear shoes for walking in the woods. \nSpend a full day at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. Interested youth 10 and up may participate with an adult. No registration fee required for an adult accompanying a youth participant unless the adult also plans to participate in the workshop. \nSuggested Materials: \n\nA water bottle\nYour field journal as well as your preferred journaling medium (such as pens\, pencils\, watercolors\, or pastels)\nA smartphone with camera\n\nInstructor Bios:\nCynthia Moulton\nCynthia finds that observing and recording in a field journal enhances our engagement with the natural world. Teaching courses in ecology\, animal diversity and biological illustration at Castleton University for the last 25 years has allowed her and her students to explore science through pen and ink\, graphite and colored pencil. \nLois Moulton\nLois has been passionate about science illustration for years\, creating numerous personal nature journals from her travels and time outdoors. As an educator at Eaglebrook School in Deerfield\, Massachusetts\, she has been incorporating art as a tool for observation into her science classes since 1995. Lois specializes in watercolor and pen & ink.
